Randolph:help not hinder.

With just couple of games left, there is without a doubt who would get playing time when playoffs begins.  When the celtics faced the wzards Doc went with the big lineup:  Avery Bradley, Paul Pierce, Green, Brandon Bass, and Kevin Garnett. In doing so he created a scenario where I felt Shav and Chris were competing for minutes.
I wondered who Doc would go to. When Shav checked in the game first he seemed to produce for a man who had a recent spell in the Chinese league, however Wilcox performed well too.Randolph played just over 15 minutes last night.  He was Garnett’s back up-obviously.  In those 15 minutes,Randolph  the best rebounder on the floor , grabbing  defensive rebounds, desparately what the celtics need.

Is it motivation driven by losing minutes to a mid-season acquisition? Wilcox performed in a new role last night.  And that new role is made possible by Shavlik Randolph being able to handle things on his own while Garnett rested.  While we don’t know yet if this is sustainable, it’s entirely possible that Randolph’s ability to hold the fort isn’t the death-knell for Wilcox’s time in Boston.  It might just be what keeps him here.
